James’ Cannondale Caad 10 was originally bought as a stopgap. The bike was intended to tide him over, after snapping his old frame in a crash, until his Cervelo R3 arrived. Equipped with a mechanical Shimano Ultegra groupset, Cannondale Si SL crankset and a set of custom built Tune Wheels the bike is a light weight do it all alloy machine that didn’t cost the earth.
Cannondale have engineered the Caad 10 to be just as good as a lot of other carbon race bikes on the market. The special thing about the Caad 10 is that its made from Aluminium yet the ride quality is not harsh, the frame weights a square 1kg and with clever use of hydroformed tubing and a very racy geometry the bike handles like a dream.
James has customised the bike slightly from its origional build adding a set of FSA Energy Compact bars, which are wrapped in Lizard Skins light weight camo tape, paired with a stem and seatpost from Zipp. His saddle is a basic model of the Fizik Arione and his custom Tune wheels are shod with Vittoria Corsa G+ Tyres. This build allows a fair amount of scope for the bike to be even lighter than its current build, although this is not priority for James as he now tends to ride most of his winter miles on this bike as well as short journeys around town.
